Once you try cordless electric, you'll never go back! March 9, 2008 137 out of 139 found this review helpful
FYI, this item is identical to the Homelite mower sold at many Home Depot locations (I don't work for any of these outfits). The two are identical except for the the colors. I contacted Earthwise to be certain, and they confirmed it, so buy either one.
This product, to my surprise, is as good as the Ryobi Mulchinator I used to own-- and it was the best cordless mower made in the late 1990's by a large margin. Like that one, this one effectively mulches the grass, even if moist, so small that there is no reason to use the bag or side discharge features. The height adjust is easy, the pushing is easy (for an adult), and you don't have to do any real maintenance (just keep it clean underneath). For the average lawn (I have 3000 square feet), this product has enough charge to do the job, is not quite as loud as a gas mower, and is just as powerful as a typical 4-5 hp model. You can charge it for a few bucks per year. It requires no assembly or tuneups, and tipping it in any direction will not cause a problem. Unless you use it commercially or for a very large property, this product is superior to a gasoline model, and way cleaner! Try a cordless electric model, and you will never want anything else!
This is IT! May 2, 2008 46 out of 47 found this review helpful
Recently, I got tired of messing with the gasoline and oil, pull cord, etc. of my admittedly trusty, almost ten year-old Sears 6.0 HP Craftsman mower. So I went online and researched several models before settling on the EarthWise 20" 24 volt cordless rechargeable. I ordered mine via Amazon on Tuesday, and it came today (Thursday), if you can believe that! Set up was instantaneous, no assembly required, and the battery was actually fully charged. I mowed both my front and back lawn with plenty of battery juice to spare. While there is no power to the wheels, the mower weighs sufficiently less (at around 90 lbs.) to be able to maneuver it with ease. In cutting and mulching, it is actually superior to my old Sears. In terms of noise, it is still pretty loud, but sounds more like a huge blow dryer rather than an engine. And - BIG plus - absolutely no noxious fumes! It never heats up like a gas-powered engine either, and one of the great things is that you can turn it off completely, maneuver it around obstacles, and simply turn it back on electronically - without yanking cords! Needless to say, I am truly happy with this mower and I highly recommend it. I will NEVER go back to gas-powered!
love this mower May 14, 2008 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I am really impressed with this mower. I like the fact that it feels solid, (no plastic feel to this baby,) also the 20" deck means I can mow much faster than I could with my Neuton mower. Another feature I like is the battery indicator that lets you know when the power is getting low. It maneuvers well, and has a real feeling of quality to it. It cut my grass evenly and I recommend it highly. Love the fact that there is no cord and no gasoline, and it starts instantly. Thank you for such a quality product.
Great product! June 5, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was looking to find a cordless mower to go green with my lawnkeeping. After reviewing a number of mowers, this was the best. I ordered it from amazon and it came 2 days early. Very simple set-up. Open the box and attach the handle. That's it. The battery was lightly charged to test at the factory. I turned it on and it was fairly quiet. I charged it overnight as per instructions. The construction of this product is very good. You can tell it is made well just by looking at the design and the feel of it. I have a small yard so this was perfect for me. Although it weighs quite a bit, it pushed along very easily. It is so cool to just stop when you need to move something during mowing and just start it up so easy and continue on. It never slowed down or got sluggish. As I said, my yard is small. I would highly recommend this product not just for the quality of it but because it helps the enviroment and is just so cool. It is not recommended for large yards. My brother was here when it was delivered and he loved it. I think he is buying one for his son as a house warming gift.
great machine May 27, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Our lawnmower arrived fully charged out of the box. I could not wait for my husband to get home to try this gadget and decided to take it for a whirl. I turned the key and squeezed the handle and I was off to conquer the front lawn. It was quite overgrown from recent heavy rains and sunshine, so with a pull of a knob, I set the lawnmower to cut at the highest setting. It cut evenly and quite close to the fence. The wheels are not powered, so it takes some getting used to and effort to maneuver it, but I had no troubles as a woman of average height and weight. The mower stopped and started completely effortlessly with a squeeze of the handle.
As mentioned in other reviews, the bag has a small opening, which had no trouble catching grass but made it a bit more work to dump the clippings. I had a very full bag and had to reach in and pull out handfuls of clippings a half dozen times. It was a minor nuisance for me.
I really love that this machine is electric and not gas. No fumes, no having to buy, transport, store and pour gas, and much less noise than your typical gas mower. I also love that this is cordless.
I only used it once (for our 1/4 acre lot) and cannot yet speak of how the mower hold up. However, so far I am very satisfied with this purchase.
