Amazon.com Product Description Perfectly suited to carrying everything from camping gear to golf clubs, the Thune 682 Sidekick rooftop cargo box makes a great cross-country companion. The Sidekick, which mounts directly to most removable and factory-installed roof racks, offers a convenient side-opening design that facilitates easy loading and unloading. It's also plenty spacious, with a total capacity of 8 cubic feet--enough for up to two sets of golf clubs or a bunch of camping gear. And thanks to the impact-resistant polyethylene construction, the Sidekick is built to last. A good-looking and functional addition to any vehicle, the Sidekick measures 54 by 15.5 by 25 inches (W x H x D) and assembles easily. Users should note that this cargo box is not One-Key System compatible. What's in the Box? Rooftop cargo box, master parts bag, small parts bag, mounting hardware, user's manual About Thule To say that Thule's beginnings in the U.S. were humble would be an understatement. Founding member Ake Skeppner sold products at windsurf competitions on the New England shoreline, exhibited the product line at a number of different trade shows, and even canvassed local retailers in the greater New York area, all from his "office"--a now-famous station wagon. Initial success was found in the small but growing sport of windsurfing where a strong, reliable roof rack was an indispensable piece of equipment. This was quickly followed by success in the ski business where Thule's Swedish heritage certainly helped the product gain rapid acceptance. By the mid-1980s, the company sold products directly to ski and windsurfing shops but sold through distributors to address the large and growing bike business. A risky decision was made to terminate these distributor relationships and sell direct to retailers through a network of independent sales representatives. Much of the company's market success today can be traced to that decision. Shortly after, Ake hired an engineer and set up a small assembly plant in Elmsford, New York in order to design and manufacture bike carriers that would offer the features demanded by the U.S. consumer and compete effectively with other racks on the market. The company has since grown rapidly through product innovation, a commitment to quality, and the continuance of a strong entrepreneurial spirit as well as continuing to evolve their products to meet the needs of users.

Thule Cargo Box May 9, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This was perfect for our trip to Disney World. We able to stash the stroller, beach toys, toy trucks and much more that would have eaten up our trunk space. Assembly does require two people, particularly when installing the hinges. We had rain for about 400 miles and only a few drops made it inside. Highly recommend it as a great buy.
Perfect Fit April 10, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The Thule Sidekick was the perfect size - not too big, not too small. It did not appear clunky-big on top of the car, nor was it too small to fit anything in. The assembly was a snap (did it with only one person - no problem). It withstood freeway speeds in Oregon rain without even letting a drop of moisture into the box. Highly recommended.
Great box for the money April 4, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
We purchased this particular model for weekend trips. It fits a full size roller suitcase and another large duffle bag which for us, frees up the back space of our suv so our labrador can join us.
Great item.
Good Value May 13, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I had some concerns purchasing based on other reviews, but overall, I was very happy. This was purchased for a trip from the Boston area to Orlando FL in April 2007. On the way down, we travelled through an enormous Nor'easter that flooded most of the east coast and substantial winds. When we arrived, everything was safe and dry, I was pretty surprised.
Assembles easily with 6 nuts and bolts, but you might want to have someonbe there as a free hand to hold the cover in place. Attaches to the vehicle with 8 wing nuts for the roof racks (we have a GMC Envoy, no problems with the racks, don't buy any extras).
It does feel a little flimsy when not attached to the vehicle and it's open, but at the end of the day, it's performance that matters, and it performed better than I thought it would. For the price, it's a very good value for the money.
Perfect Size for a Subaru Outback December 29, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Yes, this box is not as thick and heavy as the larger pro-line boxes....and that's precisely why I like it! It provides about 50% more storage space for my Outback wagon and looks nicely proportioned to the car (not like those bigger monster-sized boxes would look on top of a small wagon).
While some folks have said it took 2 people to assemble, I was able to do it myself just fine. It's also lightweight enough to put on and take off of the car by myself as well (I'm a middle-aged female). Once you start loading it up, it doesn't wobble around anymore and provides a good secure, dry enclosure. I was able to haul a tent, chairs, sleeping bags and other camping gear in it with no problems.
Well worth the money. Very nice product!
