Amazon.com Product Description The Allen 500L Stainless Steel Locking Hitch Pin for Allen Hitch Mount Bike Racks functions to lock and tighten all Allen two-inch receiver racks. It is compatible with the Models 530RR, 540RR, 550RR, 640RR, and 740RR receiver racks. The solid brass locking cylinder and cylinder case are durable and work to prevent bike theft. The lock is further secured by the internal O ring and water-tight cap, which protect the locking mechanism. The device also integrates a stainless steel nut, which tightens the rack inside of the hitch, eliminating bike wobble. The set includes three keys. What's in the Box? 500L locking hitch pin and three keys About Allen Bike Racks In 1967, after a few years of working on the aerospace technology for the Apollo missions, Dick Allen was out of a job. Government cutbacks led Allen, a Harvard-trained physicist, to transform his garage hobby into a new industry. A cycling enthusiast, inventor, and family man, Allen had a personal need for a bike-carrying device. On weekends, he would take his sons and wife to Cape Cod or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. What proved difficult time and again was the transport of his family's bicycles. Rather than fight through inconvenience with twine and a dinged car, Allen sought an answer for himself as well as a market in which he foresaw major growth possibilities. Always a pathfinder, Allen took to work in his Lincoln, Massachusetts garage in search of a more efficient way to transport bikes. Drafting designs during the day and constructing them throughout the night, he put together a model made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding). At first, the Allens' tested the prototype on weekend excursions. Finding the first trunk-mounted rack to be a success, Dick started Allen Bike Racks. Dealer acceptance came quickly, and by 1971 Allen Bike Racks were sold nationally through a number of major bicycle distributors. Today, the company owns over three dozen patents and offers a versatile product line of bike racks while Dick's son Alex now owns and operates the business. What started out as a small garage run operation now operates three warehouses nationally, two factories abroad, and has products sold in more than a dozen countries around the world.

Stainless steel locking pin January 20, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The item is too expensive for a screw and a lock. If someone wants to steal your hitch, it can be done by unscrewing the other components (there are other screws in the bike rack which can be taken out). In other words, too much money for a screw!!
Works as it should June 19, 2007 Fits the receiver hole and it locks and unlocks fine. Only had it a month so I don't know if anything happens to it over time (e.g. corrosion)
Hitch pin lock for bike rack July 28, 2007 This is a very secure and dependable hitch lock that is also an anti-wobble device. Recommending a good buy for anyone who owns compatible Allen bike rack.
Does what it is supposed to do. April 6, 2008 Not a lot to say - it simply does what was intended. It secures the Allen 4 bike carrier I also purchased from Amazon and eliminates any movement from the carrier. The easy-to-use lock makes sure it all stays on my Yukon. I've been driving around for 2 weeks with it on - no worries.
Excellent Product! January 8, 2009 The item arrived with the box compromised, but as mentioned by others, when I opened it, everything was fine. It took less than a half hour to install on my 2008 Toyoto Highlander equipped with a Reese 2" hitch. I purchased the Allen Universal Stainless Steel Locking Hitch Pin for 2-Inch or 1 1/4-Inch Receiver Hitches to use with this. I bought my wife a bicycle several years ago since she said she never had one as a child. But she very rarely used it because she was afraid of riding in the street. I purchased this product with the intent of carrying our bikes to bike paths and/or trails which I hoped would get her to ride the bike. We took a one week vacation to Hilton Head Island the last week of 2008. We drove from Columbia, SC to Hilton Head Island, SC (almost 3 hours) and used the carrier. It was easy to mount the bikes and they were very secure. The unit itself is very substantially made and the appears to be just as well made as other carriers costing 2 or 3 times more. I would highly recommend this carrier. By the way, my wife really enjoyed riding her bike on the bike paths and now wants us to go riding together several times a month on the local trails. So all in all, this was a great purchase!
